Benefits

Why safety management in Oceanaut

Your SMS, not a template

Drills, audits and inspections run on forms your company builds, so they follow your own manual.

Nothing falls due unnoticed

Each form is scheduled per vessel, with reminders before the due date and alerts when it is overdue.

Every finding followed through

Problems become deficiencies with an owner, a due date, and a recorded root cause when closed.

How it works

Safety management in Oceanaut

Safety management brings the day-to-day records of your SMS into one place for the whole fleet. Crews record drills, audits and inspections on board, online or offline; the office sees what is done, what is due and what needs action.

01

Drills, audits and inspections on your forms

Build each drill, audit and inspection as a form with the questions and evidence your SMS asks for: photos, video, files, signatures. Start from a template or import a form from Excel.

  • Your own categories and questions
  • Photo, video and file evidence
  • Templates and Excel import

02

Schedules with reminders

Assign each form to the vessels that need it, recurring from daily to yearly or every set number of days. Reminders go out before the due date, and overdue items are flagged.

  • Daily to yearly, or custom days
  • Reminders and overdue alerts
  • Due date and last done, per vessel

03

Deficiencies from report to closure

Raise a deficiency from any drill, audit or inspection, or on its own. Give it a priority, an owner and a due date, add photos as work progresses, and record the root cause and preventive action when it is closed.

  • Priority, owner and due date
  • Photo comments and a timeline
  • Root cause and preventive action on closure

04

The SMS manual, with revisions

Keep the SMS manual in Oceanaut, organised the way it is written. Reviewers comment before a document is published, each publication gets a revision number, and earlier versions can be restored.

  • Structured like your manual
  • Review, publish, revision numbers
  • Version history and restore

05

Signed, recorded and exportable

Records can require signatures from several people in order, with email reminders. Each one keeps its history, downloads as a PDF, and every change is in the activity log.

  • Signatures in a set order
  • History and PDF for every record
  • Activity log of every change

Questions about safety management

Can we use our own drill and audit checklists?

Yes. Build them in the Oceanaut form builder or import them from Excel, then assign them to the vessels they apply to.

Does it work without internet on board?

Yes. Drills, audits, inspections and deficiencies can be drafted offline in the mobile app or the web app's offline mode and synced later.

Is it built for the MSMSR?

Oceanaut follows the safety management system structure of the ISM Code, which Transport Canada's MSMSR also follows. Operators use it whether or not the MSMSR applies to them.
